Foreign nationals that get married in Turkey may apply for a family residence permit once the registrations with the civil registry office are completed.
In case of getting married in an overseas country, the parties need to apply to the Turkish representative offices in the relevant country, and confirm the existence of marriage. The Turkish representation will notify the civil registry office seated in Turkey of the marriage, and will enable the foreign national to be registered in Turkey. In this case, during the residence appointment, the married couples may apply with a certificate to be issued from the representation office in an overseas country. Any further information and document may be required during the application. Therefore, you are advised to ask for necessary documents before the appointment!
Foreign nationals that will apply for a family residence permit and the Turkish citizen spouse must be present in person at the appointment. The institution may question whether the married couple is really bond with a unity of marriage, and may ask for inquiries in confirmation of the circumstance. If a marriage of convenience determined as a result, no residence permit might be issued, or a residence permit issued in advance may be revoked.
