Foreign nationals coming for humanitarian purposes
General Information: Foreign nationals that enter in Turkey through legal means due to civil wars in their home land or in cases whenever it is mandatory for them to stay in Turkey for different reasons, a residence permit (a short term visa) may be given up to one year. Humanitarian residence permits can be given for the following reasons.
- When there is a high benefit for the child
- In case of a deportation or exclusion order when departure procedures of the foreign nationals from Turkey cannot be performed or when it is seemingly neither reasonable nor possible for them to leave Turkey
- During the time the procedures for returning the applicant to the country of asylum or to a third country that is safe are still underway
- Foreign nationals that are allowed to enter or stay in Turkey in case of emergency or for reason of protecting national benefits and interests and for reasons of public peace or public order
- In extraordinary cases
Holders of a humanitarian residence permit or persons that are given a temporary protection are not entitled with a right of way for a long term residence permit. In addition, foreign nationals that are given a 'humanitarian residence permit' are obliged to register in the address registry system latest within twenty business days following the date of issuance of the permit.
